Position: Music Director – Part time

Who:

Edgebrook Community Church is a small congregation of the United Church of Christ. Although small, the music program is robust, of high quality, and expected to be maintained at that level. Weekly music at worship services along with special music to celebrate various liturgical seasons is a central part of the worship for the congregation. Our organ is an Aeolian-Skinner instrument that has been meticulously maintained. The Music Director shall accept the following responsibilities; others, mutually agreed upon, may be deemed important to the music life of the church over the course of time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide music and direct the choir (currently, SATB quartet of section leaders) at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Service throughout the year.
  • Select appropriate organ/piano and choral music for the service.
  • Coordinate with Church Administrator regarding all dates related to music activities.
  • Provide music and direct the choir for the following additional services during the year: Christmas Eve Candlelight Service; 1 additional Lent/Holy Week service TBD annually.
  • Submit music citations in full, including prelude, postlude, choral anthems, solos (including translations if sung in a language other than English), etc., to the Church Administrator by or on Wednesday of each week. 
  • Partner with the Church in the area of general planning and leadership of the music program.
  • Function under the direct supervision of the Pastor.
  • Be responsible for the purchase of all music and music supplies, the hiring and supervision of choral  section leaders and guest musicians, including applicable payroll documents such as W-9 document. Expenditures in the area shall not exceed the amount provided in the church budget for the current fiscal year.
  • Submit check requests for musicians following the final Sunday of each month.
  • Maintain the music library in an orderly fashion and maintain, at the Church’s expense, a suitable number of copies of musical pieces to enable performance of those pieces.
  • Provide an annual report of the work and progress of the music program for inclusion in the Annual Report.
  • Attend to and report on the condition and needs of the maintenance of the Church’s musical instruments. The Church shall provide for the proper care of these instruments.
  • Renew the Church’s OneLicense reprint license annually; report all items used under licensing permissions. 

Salary and Benefits: 

Compensation at $18,000-$20,000 (commensurate with education and experience), annually payable on the 15th and 30th of each month. Hours, on average, are 4-6/wk. (including Sunday mornings) September through May; 2-3/wk. (including Sunday mornings) during the summer. Salary shall be reviewed annually at the time of preparation of budgets.

Church shall provide for appropriate payroll withholdings and FICA contributions for the position.

Provide vacation of four weeks/Sundays annually. Director will obtain substitutes to be compensated by the Church
